About Us

Omega Technical Services, based in Wrexham, North Wales provides commercial catering equipment maintenance and repair services throughout North Wales and the North West.

It was back in 1994 when Omega was formed by Mr Colin Garton. Colin started out as the only employee for Omega and landed a nice contract replacing fluorescent lamps in refrigerated drinks cabinets UK wide for Shell garages. From there on, Colin widened his skills by starting to repair Coffee Machines and offer PAT Testing to his existing clients. It wasn’t long before Colin had to recruit his first engineer to even out the workload.

Year after year Omega kept gaining new contracts through the meticulous standards and their exceptional service levels. As they started to take on new contracts, they recruited more service engineers to keep up with the demand. As Colin grew his team of engineers it gave him time to spend more time in the office to focus on training his engineers and looking for more contracts.

Through working as an installation and commissioning agent for BKI in Reading, Omega managed to seal a massive service contract for supermarket giants Tesco. Although a daunting task to manage a service contract that was UK wide with a 4 hour response, Omega stepped up to the mark and produced some impressive KPI’s with above 90% first time fix ratios. Around the clock engineering with install teams, reactive maintenance teams and hygiene deep clean teams was key to the performance achieved by Omega along with precise planning.

After 8 years of running the Hot Deli contract in Tesco, Omega gained valuable experience and excellent links with oven manufacturers in particular Houno in Denmark and BKI in reading. When the contract came to an end after a decision from Tesco to take all maintenance in-house, Omega struggled to find enough work for its national engineering structure and the engineering workforce broke down with engineers moving on to other service companies.

Rather than close the company down completely, Colin decided he would keep his hand in for a few years and focused on the sale of commercial catering spares to service companies and end users all over the UK and Europe. Omega, with its knowledge and spare parts structure naturally fell back into the service sector to repeat what they were good at. Although not a national coverage currently, Omega are focusing on a smaller more manageable catchment area to offer exceptional service levels.

Back in early 2013, Colin decided to take retirement and so handed the reigns to his trusted business associate Mike Griffiths who was appointed to continue and expand the services of Omega but more importantly, protect the reputation of the Omega name. Mike was honoured to be given the opportunity to take over such a trusted name in the industry and has a big task ahead of him to make sure he lives up to Colin’s expectations. Already Mike is looking at the refrigeration market and looking to expand into that area as well as build up other parts of the business.

From Mike, and from Colin, welcome to Omega Technical Services.
